Potential

Sound will be bigger than video

I agree with Alex Ljung. He has put together one of the most important presentations I have heard recently on media, the internet, and the future of online communication. Very few people in the industry agree with him right now. Others are catching on quickly.

The video below is about 25 minutes long, but his presentation only consumes about 15 minutes of that time. The remaining content will not likely be of interest to you.

Do you have any thoughts on the potential of audio and the future of the web? I plan to do a more lengthy update on the subject after launching a related project at some point in the near future.

Trying new software and services online

I want to find simpler and more effective ways to communicate online. Some of the projects I am working on at Maranatha deserve to be shared, but are often so time consuming they leave me with little time to write. Recording audio updates appears to be an excellent solution to the little-time, much-to-share problem. With this in mind, I am experimenting with several different services. Here’s a first attempt with SoundCloud.

New tool for publishing Tweets

Just discovered the Blackbird Pie plugin: http://ow.ly/35RLz ...so long Twitter screenshots.

Sometimes I would like to pass along quotes and links I post on my Twitter accounts throughout the week. Unfortunately putting together even the simplest blog entry with Tweets can be time-consuming. Even after you are finished, the user experience tends to be lacking.

The WordPress plugin I am using to display the above Tweet may help solve the problem. It places a cut-and-paste box in your WSYWIG editor, allowing you to add a Twitter URL. The plugin then automatically displays the Tweet in this, more user-friendly, format. Text and links are actually live and clickable with the Blackbird tool, unlike in other methods where you take a screenshot and post it as a photo within your article.

In an effort to see if it may be feasible for future “best of the week” posts, here is a test run of my favorite Tweets from the past few weeks:
